About Me
My background
I am an American Born in Cuba. I bring to my art the richness of two cultures that have shaped my vision and creativity. My artistic journey begins late in life, when I discovered a passion for painting decorative ceramic tiles for bathrooms and kitchens. What started as a craft soon awakened in me a deeper desire for artistic growth and exploration.
Eager to refine my skills, I enrolled at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, where I studied under outstanding instructors such as Dennis Aufiery and guest teachers. Each mentor helped me broaden my perspective and develop a unique artistic voice rooted in strong technique, expressive gestures, and emotional depth.
My first public exhibition took place at Florida Atlantic University in Jupiter, where I presented a series of charcoal figurative drawings that received warm recognition. This milestone was followed by my first solo exhibition at the Cremata Fine Art Gallery in Miami, a pivotal moment in my career. There, I showcased large-scale figurative works alongside expressive landscapes in oil, charcoal, and graphite. The success of this exhibition opened the doors to multiple future shows, establishing my presence in the South Florida art scene.
My work is often described as deeply personal and evocative. In my still lifes featuring sugar cane, I weave together fragments of history, and identity. These pieces draw inspiration from my childhood in Cuba, my experiences in the Florida Everglades, and family heritage, transforming intimate recollections into universal stories of resilience, nostalgia, and belonging.
Today, my paintings and drawings reflect not only technical mastery but also a profound narrative—one that bridges the landscapes of my past with the artistic explorations of my present life.
